Zoi Ellis

Zoi’s journey into hip hop began with a passion for music and a drive to uplift underground artists. In
2010, she pioneered the all-women-powered hip hop website, Bad-Perm.com, which quickly became a
beacon for new music releases, insightful articles, interviews, and vibrant concert recaps. Not content with
just writing about the scene, Zoi taught herself photography and videography to capture her own
interviews and provide visual narratives for music fans.
Her creative talents soon expanded into the realms of photography and film production, earning her
recognition as a published photographer and film producer. It was during this time that Zoi’s path
intertwined with rapper Sha Stimuli, igniting her deeper involvement in the music industry, gaining
experience and sharpening her newfound skills within his team. Sha Stimuli encouraged Zoi’s growth and
experience and later introduced her to his mentor and one of hip hop’s greatest A&R’s, Lenny S.
In pursuit of her burgeoning career, in 2012 Zoi made a pivotal move from Toronto to New York, where
she immersed herself in the world of A&R (Artists and Repertoire), interning under Lenny S himself.
Rapidly learning the nuances of the industry, she reviewed music submissions, met with emerging artists,
and lent her expertise to Lenny’s diverse projects during some of his time as Vice President of A&R at
Defjam.
In 2019, Zoi’s talents were recognized by acclaimed rapper Pharoahe Monch, who enlisted her to
strategize and oversee projects for his band, th1rt3en. Their collaborative effort culminated in the critically
acclaimed album “A Magnificent Day For An Exorcism,” which debuted in the Top 20 on iTunes’ US
Albums chart in 2021. This milestone marked Zoi’s first executive credit, solidifying her reputation as an
indispensable force.
Described by Pharoahe Monch as a “one-person label,” Zoi’s meticulous guidance, input and unwavering
support were instrumental in steering the project to success. Building on this achievement, Zoi recently
launched Framework NYC, her own creative agency dedicated to empowering artists through innovative
music release strategies, project management, stage and tour management, and the production of
compelling visual assets.
Today, Zoi remains integral to Pharoahe Monch’s creative vision, spearheading strategies for his
upcoming album “External Affairs” and overseeing daily operations for his label, Trescadecaphobia. Her
journey continues to exemplify dedication, creativity, and a profound commitment to amplifying the voices
of artists within the ever-evolving landscape of hip hop.
